Supporting the Classroom and Beyond with Cloud Tools
As we prepare students for their future, we recognize that students need to be able to use technology to communicate and collaborate with others outside of the walls of their classroom, as well as learn how to share their own STORY. Being able to have conversations and explore new ideas enables students to begin to synthesize information and open their minds to other sides of issues and experiences to build problem solving skills.  These experiences help students learn how to think critically and research new information.  This session will review how to build a system that enables students and teachers to  learn how to work in collaborative groups to communicate outside of the classroom, share files and create online meetings, and integrate applications to foster innovative thinking, student ownership, and empowerment.

Fact Vs. Fiction: Teaching Critical Thinking Skills in the Age of Fake News
At the end of 2016, The Oxford Dictionary named “post truth” its word of the year, citing as its definition: “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.” In an age in which information is abundant, easy to access and often overwhelming AND in which there’s economic incentive to mislead consumers, discerning fact from fiction has become THE “21st Century skill.” In this session we’ll explore the fake news phenomenon, discuss its impact on our students, teachers and society, put our own source evaluation skills to the test and discover ways that all educators can lead the charge as defenders of facts in a post truth world.
